Gwent Police Headquarters

Client: BAM Construction

The Atkins/BAM team successfully won the commission through a tendering process. The scheme replaces existing outdated accommodation with a new efficient Police Headquarters (circa 5,500sqm) with 490 space multi-story car park on a separate adjacent site. Helen has been the client lead and has led the Atkins multi-disciplinary project from RIBA Stages 2-7. The constraint of a tight site has required close collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure the scheme could meet all technical constraints.

Augmented Reality was used to introduce key Gwent Police stakeholders to the highest priority functioning spaces to ensure key staff were entirely comfortable with the proposals and were happy to sign off the design. The project was subject to a Home Office Design review process to ensure the highest quality design has been achieved. Facilities provide open plan office working, conferencing, specialist spaces and training facilities.

The project was delivered to BIM Level 2 and achieved BREEAM Excellent.

Started on site November 2019.
